Day 119 in prison camp was a day of celebration for Madge and Bird’s mom and mom’s around the world. This Mother’s Day was the first for my wife as a mother so Madge, Bird and I tried to make it just a little more special than most other days. On this morning I got up to feed both Madge and the Bird by myself so their mom could sleep a little more. Bird helped out by waking up first and not freaking out enough to wake up his sister too which allowed me to give him his bird seed, put him back down to sleep and then get Madge up and feed her. Bird is exponentially lower maintenance wise than Madge is which makes sense as he is a man’s man. When Bird is tired or irate we can put him in the crib or playpen and after he whines for two minutes he passes out sucking his little bird thumb. Madge on the other hand is not so compliant. She has to be held, put down to sleep, picked up again and held, put down to sleep and then have her little butt pat until she finally gives up squeaking unhappily until she cannot physically keep her eyes open any more. On this Mother’s Day I tried to explain to Madge that mommy needs to rest because daddy, she and the bird were slowly draining all of the energy out of her, and if things were going to continue to operate on schedule at the prison camp we all need mommy in tact. Madge didn’t seem terribly concerned but agreed to go back to sleep for a little while so daddy could run out and get mommy breakfast and still have time to straighten up the house before she woke up. All went according to plan, and without buying any jewelry I managed to give mommy a pretty nice first Mother’s Day which in itself is a win. Mother’s Day for a kid is a day where your dad basically ends up bribing you to not torture or speak to mom unless absolutely necessary and for that one day mom doesn’t have to do literally everything for everyone. At least for this first one the Bird, Madge and I did okay. Now that Mother’s Day is over, we return to our regularly scheduled broadcast of “Mommy Does Everything.”
